Video Case Study: Precision Spray Control at Huober Brezel

PROBLEM

Huober Brezel, renowned for its wide variety of crunchy pretzels, pastries and unique specialties, approached us after identifying opportunities to improve efficiency in several stages of their production process. Ensuring consistent quality while maintaining a clean and reliable process was becoming increasingly important for them.

Two critical applications stood out. The first was the application of a release agent on metal trays. A necessary step to keep products from sticking and to maintain smooth, uninterrupted operations. The second application was the controlled spraying of water onto the dough to ensure toppings adhered properly. Both tasks need to be precise to guarantee product quality and production efficiency.

At the time, Huober Brezel was using a basic fluid delivery system with air atomizing nozzles. While functional, this setup created several challenges:

  • Excessive overspray and mist.
  • Limited control over spray quantity and distribution.
  • Time-consuming cleaning of surrounding work areas.
  • Inconsistent water application, resulting in toppings not adhering evenly to the dough.

SOLUTION

By choosing Spraying Systems Co.®, you gain a trusted partner with over 80 years of innovation, delivering precise, reliable technology.

Release Agent Application
To prevent dough from sticking, an oil release agent is sprayed onto the baking trays as they move along the conveyor.

For this application, our spray experts selected the AutoJet® F1850+ Spray Controller paired with a 20L pressure tank (mobile frame) and a hydraulic PulsaJet® spray header. An ideal combination for a precise and efficient performance.

The PulsaJet® nozzle, equipped with a stainless-steel tip, delivers consistent and accurate fluid application, minimizing waste, reducing costs, and eliminating overspray or mist.

The AutoJet® F1850+ spray controller uses closed-loop system control to automatically regulate flow rate, ensuring the precise application of release agent.

Water Spray Application
For the water spray application, the AutoJet® F1850+ spray controller, paired with a spray header and liquid preparation unit with pressure regulation, ensures precise application so salt adheres evenly to every snack.

RESULTS

In this case there were multiple phases where we could improve the process. In general, the goal was to eliminate overspray and mist, get better spray distribution across the conveyor belt and have less cleaning cycles of the production area.

Overspray and mist are eliminated which means no more wet floor to clean. The even spray distribution has increased as well.

On-site production testing of both systems confirmed the reliability and quality of our equipment for the customer.

The solution we offered has been running for almost 2 years now, and the customer is very happy with the results of our equipment.
