Employment at our brand new facility in Deinze (activities for EMEA)

Agriculture is at pressure. Initially the EU Green Deal stated that by 2030 the use of chemicals and dangerous pesticides must be reduced by 50%. This has been weakened. Nevertheless, the reduction of pesticides will result in a more environmental friendly agriculture and economic savings for the farmer We aim to offer our clients a solution to spray in an especially targeted manner. WeedJet can be implemented as an effective alternative to the traditional homogeneous or broadcasting spraying. Targeted spraying requires the ability to differentiate weeds and diseases from (healthy) crops and solely spray where they occur. Thus significantly reducing the amounts of used chemicals and minimize environmental impacts while still providing effective pest control.
To this end, we are developing WeedJet that will be installed on field sprayers. It contains cameras, electronic hardware to pilot the nozzles and artificial intelligence based, detection algorithms. You will join our ambitious team in achieving these goals.

Your duties and responsibilities:

  • Back-end development of the embedded software on the sprayer that coordinates with the user interface, the cloud and the edge devices that take care of the weed detection
  • Implementation of the neural network deployment on edge devices ingesting camera stream of the field with low latency triggering opening and closing of the spray nozzles
  • Developing cloud tools and methods for the units on the machine:
    • for easily and rapidly updating the embedded software
    • for remote monitoring of the units on the machine
  • Collaborate with our neural network specialists, user interface and cloud software developers
  • Implementing algorithms for training and evaluating neural networks
  • Troubleshooting and debugging errors in existing models

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Master’s degree of Science in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Sciences
  • Familiar with Linux, Docker, Python
  • Good software development /DevOps practices
  • Experience with:
    • embedded devices based on for example ARM processors, NVIDIA devices
    • neural network deployments
    • handling of images and video
  • Affinity with electronics
  • Experience/interest with remote device management like Azure IoT hub
  • Affinity with agriculture: open to field visits
  • You work well in a team environment and can collaborate with other teams
  • Able to work autonomously and proactive
  • Fluency (written & verbal) in English is mandatory, Dutch or other languages are a plus
