How spray technology is helping to develop alternative nicotine products

One of the world’s leading tobacco companies is investing in the research and development of alternative, healthier nicotine products that don’t burn tobacco to deliver nicotine to their users.

As part of one of their development projects they required an unspecified liquid to be finely atomized and sprayed. It was of vital importance that the spray process would be quantifiable and repeatable for optimal accuracy and testing results.

Up until now they had been using a rudimentary system that didn’t provide the expected results, took up a lot of time and caused excessive waste.

AutoJet® E1850+ Controller with PulsaJet® Nozzles

As the leading experts in spray technology Spraying Systems Co. was contacted to provide new insights into a possible solution.

For a straightforward application as the one described we can offer a turnkey AutoJet® E1850+ system. The system can quickly be installed and is easy to use. More importantly, by combining it with a PulsaJet® nozzle this gives the customer access to our Precision Spray Control (PSC) technology.

PSC allows the user to turn the nozzles on and off very quickly to control flow rate. This cycling is so fast that the flow often appears to be constant. With traditional nozzles, flow rate adjustments require a change in liquid pressure, which also changes the nozzle’s spray angle, coverage and drop size. With PSC, pressure remains constant enabling flow rate changes without changes in spray performance.

The AutoJet® E1850+ System and PulsaJet® nozzle were quickly installed and delivered the solution the customer was looking for. The new spray application allows easy repeatable and accurate testing of the new products that are being developed. In addition the new system is a lot quicker and cleaner to use than their previous solution.
