Fire Protection Applications

Wet Chemical

Wet chemical fire protection is typically used in the commercial kitchen industry. Standard and wide angle FullJet fullcone nozzles are typically the nozzle of choice for this application. Wet chemical extinguishing agent is specially formulated to combat burning cooking oil. It is typical for the wet chemical agent to be multi-acting with foaming properties, which aid in the extinguishment of flaming pools of fat and oil.

Water Mist

Water mist is a new and growing technology that utilizes atomization of water droplets to extinguish a fire. Water mist is an attractive technology for fire protection because the atomized droplets cool the affected area of the fire, and the droplets also create steam which displaces the oxygen that fire requires to sustain itself. Hydraulic atomizing nozzles and cluster sprays are great choices for watermist applications.

Foam

Fire protection foaming agents are typically used to extinguish flammable liquid fires. The foam creates an air-excluding, cooling, continuous layer of vapor sealing, water bearing material that halts and prevents combustion.

Deluge

Deluge water fire protection is the most common type of fire protection. In a deluge suppression system, the goal is to "drown" the affected area with large amounts of water. Deluge has large heat absorption capacity, and also cools the fuel of the fire below ignition temperature. Deluge is also the most inefficient fire protection system due to the large amounts of water that can be wasted. Deluge can also result in significant property damage due to the large amounts of water used. Large capacity FullJet nozzles or SpiralJet nozzles are typically better suited for these applications. Sprinkler type systems are also used for Deluge applications.

Water Curtain

A water curtain system uses an array of Flatspray nozzles to create a barrier of water to contain a fire inside a small area. The goal is to allow the fire to consume all of the fuel in the area. Once the fuel is depleted, the fire will be extinguished.
